Other Outside Things at Our House

When we got home from our Dollywood trip we noticed that we had a visitor in the kids' play structure- a Momma Robin and a new nest. The kids were not thrilled, as their 'fort' was taken away from them. I initially wasn't thrilled because I feared lots of mess but I soon fell in love.

I peeked in the nest a few days later and saw three eggs. So I checked back the next week and this is what I saw! I couldn't believe that one had hatched!

And while I was taking pictures....the second one started hatching! I was so excited! I was cheering for that little bird to get out of that shell and poke its head out. I felt like I was someone's labor coach.

I got a great video of it hatching but it's too big for blogger.

Chase asked why the birds looked like ears. I thought that was cute.

I went back that night after I got the kids to bed and the little guy (or girl) finally got out of that shell. I thought it was interesting that the old shells were already out of the nest. I guess the Momma gets rid of them.

The third egg has a small crack in it if you look closely and it must have hatched the next day.

A few days later I checked on them and this is what they looked like. Just minutes before the Momma was feeding them and they were chirping like crazy. I ran to get the camera but she was gone.

I haven't been to see them in a few days. They're probably all grown up now and flying the coop!

In other outside news, I was able to get some flowers in my planters on the back deck for the first time in three years!

It makes me so happy to be able to look out of my kitchen window and see all of these beauties! They have all grown so much since I took these pictures in May.

The little pot on the left is what Chase made for me for Mother's Day at preschool and they planted the flowers in it.

This one is my favorite. I have decided that I will definitely do more planters like this next year. They give the deck so much color....and give me something else to do....water flowers every night. :)

This is my one hanging basket.

And our hanging tomato plant! This is our first year for a tomato plant. I hope it actually produces some tomatoes. Last week there were 17 blooms on it, but so far none of those have turned into a tomato. Again, it's much bigger now, as this picture was taken over a month ago.

The kids helping Daddy give the deck a makeover-replacing old boards.

Such good helpers.

And my newest addition to the deck- my clothes line! I love it! I wish it was bigger. Right now I only hang out Parker's cloth diapers. It has really helped with the smell. It's amazing how good they smell after hanging out on the line. But boy are they stiff!

So we've been pretty busy outside this year. I feel like this is directly related to the fact that I am not pregnant!
