Chase had his first dentist appointment this morning and did so well! No cavities and the hygienist said she could tell he's been brushing.
Phil took him and said that he opened wide when the hygienist told him too and would bite down for the suction to clean out his mouth. He came home with a new toothbrush and toothpaste and truck (which he is the most excited about).
They sent him home with regular toothpaste. Is he supposed to use that already? I've had him using toddler toothpaste until now.
Oh, and do you like the button-down that he wore? He picked out his clothes by himself this morning and he picked that shirt because he said Daddy has a shirt just like that (and he's all about dressing like Daddy these days, lol.)

Again, might be a "bad mom" here but I've never bought the toddler kind...we've always used the regular stuff. :) Love the "dressing like Dad" issues, sounds similar to my house. They are growing up!
Well, all I know about it is that it is harmful for them to swallow fluoride (which regular toothpaste has in it but toddler is fluoride free). So I wasn't sure if he's old enough for me to trust him to spit it out, seeing as how he likes to suck his current toothpaste off his toothbrush, lol. But I guess there's one way to find out!
We don't use the toddler ones either - they are more gentle but many of them don't even have the ADA label that they fight cavities.
If he swallows his toothpaste maybe make your own paste for him of baking soda and water...bet he wouldn't want to swallow that, lol! And it's probably just as effective at cleaning as the toddler ones minus all the chemicals.
Tom's of Maine has a strawberry flavored kids toothpaste. We've just upgraded to the Tom's mint flavors which I was surprised both kids like! Maybe because they aren't so strong of mint like the artificial Crest type toothpastes???
It just hit me how big Chase is getting - does he start kindergarten next fall?
So Andrea, what do you brush Ben's teeth with? And what do you do to give them fluoride? Does Tom's have fluoride in it?
No, he doesn't start kingergarten yet. He'll be four in April, but he's really changing into a little boy these days instead of a preschooler. Sob, sob. :)
