Congrats to Phil on his "promotion" (although they don't call it that in the airline industry. I don't think anyway)! He finally got upgraded to a new, bigger plane- the MD-11! He's been a pilot there for 5 years and they haven't hired once, until now. I think they felt the recession before it really hit. And now they are hiring 500 pilots! Good news! Not only did Phil get upgraded to the MD-11, but he is still going to be based in Memphis. For a while we thought we would have to move to the Northwest somewhere so he could be based out of Anchorage, Alaska. But there are so many open seats on all the planes, he can hold a Memphis base. Awesome news!
His current plane only flies domestically, including Mexico and Canada. But with his new plane he will now be flying internationally. This will be an adjustment for all of us, as it will mean that he will be gone for longer amounts of time in a row.
He will not be able to fly his new plane until get goes to class for it, which takes 3 months. Right now his class date is scheduled for next April! Crazy that it is so far out. But they are training so many pilots right now that there is a long wait.
We are just so grateful for this advancement, as is it the movement we though would happen years ago to fill in my missing salary after Chase was born. An answered prayer for sure. And boy did we learn a lot these past five years when things were so tight.
Congrats Phil!
